New Journey Housing offers a bite-sized approach to volunteering. There are numerous options for volunteering, all of which are short-term and flexible depending on the volunteer's own skills and schedule. A volunteer does not need to have related experience or a specific skill set, only a desire to help a newcomer as they are trying to find a home.
If you are interested in volunteering with New Journey Housing, or for more information, please contact us.

1. Home Mentorship Volunteer
New Journey Housing is looking for Home Mentorship Volunteers. These volunteers will be assigned to a newcomer (individual or family), and will be asked to assist the newcomer through their search for a home. Specific training will be provided by New Journey Housing to equip the volunteers with any necessary resources to help in this process.
Time Commitment: Once the Home Mentorship Volunteer's Clients have found a new home, all volunteer responsibility will end with New Journey Housing. The commitment is only for one client. If the volunteer would be interested in helping more newcomers, we would be more than happy to put him/her back on the list at any time.
2. Housing Volunteer
New Journey Housing is looking for a Housing Volunteer who would serve as a resource in searching for potential home vacancies in Winnipeg. This volunteer could search for home vacancies via internet databases, newspaper classifieds or scanning through a local neighbourhood. New Journey Housing is happy to match your skill set to available volunteer positions. Time commitment is flexible.
3. Language Interpretation and Translation Volunteer
Many of the newcomer clients at New Journey Housing speak languages other than English. The Language Interpretation and Translation Volunteer is someone who speaks an alternate language and would like to assist in interpretation or translation work. This work could be done at our office (especially when working with clients) or from home (when working with written documents). New Journey Housing is happy to match your skill set to available volunteer opportunities. Time commitment is flexible.
4. Office Assistant Volunteer
New Journey Housing is looking for a volunteer willing to help in our office. Previous office experience is not a requirement. Tasks could include answering phones, photocopying or assisting staff and/or clients at the office. The Office Assistant Volunteer would be given clear instructions by the staff at the office. New Journey Housing is happy to match your skill set to available volunteer positions. Time commitment is flexible.
5. Handy-Person Volunteer
New Journey Housing is looking for volunteers to help with our Home Ownership Program. As many of our clients will be looking at buying their own home we would like to have a few volunteers who have previous home building/contracting/construction skills, and are willing to help out newcomer families once they are in their new homes with "handy-person" tasks
Commitment: The Handy-Person Volunteers would not be assigned to only one client rather they would be ‘on call' for all of our clients. Their commitment to working with NJH would be completely flexible according to the volunteer's availability.
6. Helpful Technician Volunteer
New Journey Housing is looking for volunteers who have skills regarding computers. We are looking for someone who would be willing to help out when technical difficulties occur in the office. The Helpful Technician Volunteer would be ‘on call' for when New Journey Housing needs help solving a technical dilemma, and would possibly be asked to come down to the office when absolutely necessary to fix a computer problem.
Commitment: The Helpful Technician Volunteer would be on call, so the amount of time they put in might be completely random. Their commitment to working with New Journey Housing would be completely flexible according to the volunteer's availability for over-the-phone and/or in-person support.
7. Home Inspections Volunteer
New Journey Housing endeavours to ensure that newcomers purchase a good home. The Home Inspections Volunteer would help to conduct a home inspection when a client puts in an offer to purchase. A person with skill in the housing industry and a heart to help newcomers make good choices would qualify for this position. The time commitment is only for the inspections as the requests come forward.
8. Home Maintenance Volunteer
New Journey Housing understands that operating and maintaining a home takes time and skill. Many of Winnipeg's newcomers have not previously owned and maintained a home - particularly in our harsh climate. Homeowners may have technical questions about homes that New Journey Housing staff may not know how to answer. The Home Maintenance Volunteer would be a qualified person who is willing to be available to make phone calls and possible home visits as required. Time commitment is flexible.
