Buying a Home?
Your HOME PURCHASING options and how New Journey Housing can help.
Home Purchasing in Manitoba
Many people want to own a home. Buying a home can be the answer to a dream and an important lifetime investment. It is important to know if you are ready, before you make a decision to buy.
You may be ready if you have:
- a regular and secure income
- a good credit history and credit score
- enough money for a down payment and closing costs
You should also know:
- how much you can afford to spend on a home
- how to buy a home
We can help answer your home buying questions and advise you on all of the steps of the buying process.
Register for our free Home Purchasing Workshop, find out about down payments, mortgages, taxes, realtors, and all of our free services.
First-time Home Buyer’s Tax Credit
You can apply for tax credit on the first home that you buy. You will have to apply for it when you file your income tax for the year when you bought your home. If you are having someone file your tax returns for you, you need to tell him/her that you bought your first house. You can get information online through the Canada Revenue Agency.
Watch a video from Canada Revenue Agency about how this tax credit works!
Home Buyers’ Plan Program
This is resident-managed housing with private living units and shared common spaces. If you want to live in a co-op unit you must first apply for membership. If your membership application is approved, you will pay a one-time membership fee (usually between $500 and $2000) before you move in. Learn more about your housing options, how to find a home, apply for financial assistance and your rights and responsibilities as a renter.
